Turning up the heat!
This is a short movie that relates to our discussion from back in Chapter 1 on how to go from good to great. It also happens to be the theme for AB Combs Elementary for the upcoming school year...enjoy!

Chapter 6-10
I cannot believe summer is almost over! With the start of the new school year right around the corner our calendars will be filling up quick. In order to wrap up this book study, the following questions apply to chapters six through ten.
1. How do you see a leadership theme at SES integrating with our existing campus or district initiatives?
2. How would you bring an OBT on board?
3. Based on the list on pg. 186 titled, “Why Change Efforts Fail,” what do you consider to be key ingredients necessary to implement a theme of leadership at SES?
4. If we consider this book study to be our “Strategic Pause,” reflect and determine if you are moved to change? Does adopting a theme of leadership at SES fit?
5. Stephen Covey refers to AB Combs principal, Muriel Summers, as a modern-day miracle. What leader has inspired you either professionally or personally?

Chapter 4
Wow! So far we have 26 followers here at Smithfield America...that's amazing, especially considering it is July. For those of you who participated in last week's training on Interdisciplinary Instruction, you will notice some depth and complexity elements have been added to the questions. Do you think our responses will reflect deeper thinking? Hmmm...we'll see!
1. An underlying theme of this chapter is the importance of staff unity toward achieving a school improvement initiative. What are some ideas of ways our staff can become closer? How do you think improving staff relationships will impact our scholars? (this is our new word for students by the way:)
2. The book details many examples of ways students at A.B. Combs are given leadership responsibilities. One of our current practices is rewarding our "natural born leaders" with leadership roles. Please share any ideas you have of how we can break this cycle (pattern) and expand leadership opportunities to include more scholars on our campus.

Chapter 1
Too Good to be True?
1. As an exemplary campus, Smithfield does a good job of educating students. What ways do you feel we can take our school from good to great?
2. Imagine you are the Patel family and are looking for a quality school in the area. What qualities do you consider a great school to possess?
*We have a great discussion going on here! These two questions are simply to get us started thinking about the chapter and relating it to our campus. I encourage you to share any additional questions over the chapter. :) I LOVE this book!!!
