I think that as a staff our culture has become much more unified over time. We are much more interdependent- willing to help each other to bring success to our scholars.
Unfortunately, I think that was predicated upon having a student body that has become much more needy over the years I have been at Smithfield. We have more and more children for whom school is not a priority, because it is not a priority at home, which makes us have to work much harder.
I love the book too and the idea of greeters is wonderful. I have a new acronym for TEAM Together Everyone Achieves More That will be hanging in my room and will be part of our mission statement. Our staff has become more unified in the last several years. I love the willingness to help each other. I am excited that we are all enriched and enthusiastic about the Leader In Me. I am in for LCR. Lowell and I leave for our couples vacation on the 5th and return on the 11th. See you soon SES!
I find it interesting that our school culture has not really changed much over time. SES has always been a very warm and family type atmosphere. It begins with the feeling you get when you walk through the doors, it continues when you go into the best office in BISD, and then you feel the TLC that is given to each student in every classroom. I think a large part of this can be contributed to the fact that we always have a core group of PTA volunteers that complete the entire family culture. I love our school and am proud to be a part of it.
Smithfield has always been a great school with teachers who care and are willing to give their time and talents to help children become scholars. Smithfield has always had the needy children who travel from apartment to apartment but our core still remains a small community who work hard and want their children to do well. It does seem that some of our children have problems that only adults should face. I love it that Smithfield is a safe haven for those students who need to become leaders so that they can make wise choices and hopefully change their future. I know that our study of these 7 Habits will help every child and teacher at Smithfiels to become a successful leader.
I love your acronym for TEAM Taryn! I agree with all of you that our campus is warm and welcoming to our students, their families and their needs. Being out in "Kindergarten Land" there are days when it feels like I only see Melissa, Shawn, Kelso, Kelly on the way to lunch, and Kerrie on Friday's! I am really looking forward to LCR for many reasons. One being money...hahaha...but really, just spending time with the staff as a whole. I feel that opportunities like these will only strenghten our staff and will have a positive impact on our culture.
